This is a hand made horse cart from our Wood Toys collection. It represents the traditional portuguese horse carts. These are antique toys that are still manufactured nowadays in the northern Portugal region. Portuguese most important area in the production of toys is the Porto region up north in the country. In Oporto the manufacture of craft toys is still a big industry. The first Portuguese handmade toys were made of clay, wood and cardboard. Handcrafted wooden toys techniques were passed down from father to son, and cant still be seen nowadays. Portuguese toys have a dual function: They are great decorative items and can also be played.
